Dr. Eaton’s Background
Dr. Eaton, Founder and Director of Retina Health Center, is board certified in ophthalmology and is a well-regarded authority on the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetes, and other macular problems. He has regularly been appointed as principle investigator for numerous clinical research studies surrounding these conditions.
Also a widely published author, one of Dr. Eaton’s most well known literary works is See Again! Reversing and Preventing Macular Degeneration. Additionally, he has been featured in the New York Times for his contributions to the industry via the many surgical tools and instruments he has invented to improve the safety and efficacy of surgery.
Dr. Eaton has been acknowledged for his extensive expertise in eye care on many occasions. Former Governor Jeb Bush did so when appointing him to the Diabetes Advisory Council for the State of Florida, where Dr. Eaton served as chair. In 2015, Dr. Eaton also received the prestigious American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, as well as the American Society of Retina Specialists’ (ASRS) 2015 Honor Award.
A Duke University alum, Dr. Eaton has a longstanding tie to his alma mater. It was there he earned his medical degree, then completed his retinal training, while serving as chief resident, and now has a faculty appointment with the same institution. Dr. Eaton has since been practicing ophthalmology in Southwest Florida since 1993.
Dr. Wafapoor’s Background
Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Wafapoor specializes in the treatment of retinal disorders including macular degeneration. After earning his medical degree at the University of Catolica De Cordoba in Argentina, Dr. Wafapoor completed an initial residency in Argentina. Then he completed a second ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, where he also served as assistant professor in the vitreoretinal service from 2002 to 2006. Dr. Wafapoor’s retinal training was completed at the Louisiana State University Eye Center.
Also a winner of numerous awards, Dr. Wafapoor is the proud recipient of the Samuel B. Johnson Teacher of the Year Award in 2002, an Appreciation Award from the VA Medical Center, and the 2006 American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, as well as the American Society of Retina Specialists’ (ASRS) 2015 Honor Award.
